Over the last few days my wife and I have decide to cross some things off our Washington DC list of things to do and I gotta say….this is a long list.
The major ones like the national mall, Washington Monument, National History Museum, and the space museum have been fun. We’ve even been there multiple times. But sometimes we humans can be dismissive or even unaware of the things we have around us.
The Library of Congress was one of those places we knew existed and just never went to (I don’t know why). Anyways, I enjoyed this place so much.
The architecture inside and outside is insane to adore. I was most impressed by the variety of the design and use of consistency to create a classic theme. Galileo, Aquinas, Marcus Aurelius, and more line the outside while the inside is full of odes to science, math and the arts.
The Jefferson Library has a recreation of the original collection that is still amazing to look at even with those missing books. The collection includes Plutarch, DeTouqevuille (that’s definitely spelled wrong), And so much more.
The ability to register for free to be a “registered reader”. Is a very cool feature. You can enter the main reading hall which is a must see and browse their collection of books from 100 years ago to modern day and read books on an antique desk of your choosing. Conducting research or plainly having fund learning new things at a place like this is inspiring.
All these words to say one simple thing. This was incredibly cool to visit!
I leave you with this quote from the great hall:
