Everyone is seen, not everyone is heard.
Did you know that most teams function at less than 60% of their potential effectiveness? And 82% of team members feel misunderstood and undervalued?
That’s 8.2 people out of ten. So, 9 actually, because you know…it’s people we’re talking about here, not halves of people.
And why does this happen?
Because we are not aware of our leadership voice and how our voice interacts with other voices on our teams. This disconnect creates an environment where team members don’t tell each other the truth, and leaders continuously undermine their own influence among their people.
Three years ago I was exposed to the five voices and since then I have been obsessed with this type of…”people hack.” Now, this is not the kind of hack that helps you figure out every single person you meet but it does give you a general idea about what to expect around groups. It’s true we are all uniquely different but studies have shown that we can make predictions based on personality types.
Ok, so here’s the breakdown of how this works.
We have a leadership voice. Once we know our voice we can understand our tendencies. We can also know the tendencies of others. How our voices interact is what increases or decreases the effectiveness of what we do.
Which voice do you think is your foundational voice?
Could it be the Nurturer, the champions of people and relational harmony? These are the people that never forget a birthday!
How about the Creative, out of the box thinker and innovator? This is the person that can spot problems early in advance before they become an issue.
Or maybe you are the Guardian, champion of due diligence and efficient systems? This is the person most committed to making sure systems remain efficient.
Are you a Connector, talented at maintaining relationships? This is usually the person that knows someone that knows someone that knows someone that can make it happen!
Finally, are you the Pioneer? The strategic visionary that makes it happen at all costs!
We all have a relationship with each of these voices and we see the world through our foundational voice. As we lead ourselves and our teammates through difficulties, it’s ever more important to know how our tendencies and their tendencies interact. Sometimes altercations flare up!
In any case, here’s some practicality for you. Take a look at the questions in this post. Ask yourself, at first glance, which voice seems to resonate with you the most and why?
In the coming year I will be releasing a serious of online workshops and webinars to open up this amazing journey to everyone as we aim to learn our leadership voice, and lead ourselves to a better place!
